In honor of my Dad, PVT Melvin T. Hubbard, born September 17, 1914, died October 9, 1946.

Used for Lewisite and Mustard Gas Testing at Camp Sibert, Alabama. Trained with the 28th BN, 7th Training Regiment, F.A.R.T.C., Fort Sill, OK. Shipped to Europe on the Queen Mary, Assigned to 102 HQ, 53rd Reinforcement BN, APO 873, the 736th FA BN, APO 403, and the 194th Field Artillery BN, Battery C. Served in Belgium, France, Austria and Germany. Fought in the battle for Regensburg and Passau.

The ways my Dad influenced my life:

Life itself:
He chose life for me, when he refused to choose between whether to save his wife or his baby, choosing rather to pray for both of us.

Patriotism:
He chose to serve his country, even though it meant leaving behind a wife, five children and his Dad, with an uncertain future.

Ambition:
He extracted from my Mom a deathbed promise to see that we all received an education and become productiove members of society.

Confidence:
He had confidence in me, labeling me "his fighter," and said that I should receive his flag and medals because I would know what to do with them.

Personality:
My sister inherited his musical ability, my brother his physical looks, and I, his love of people. his stigmatism, and his "half full" attitude.

He did not die, he lives on in me!
