PVT Morris Harold Kingery, "Buster", was born June 25, 1916 and died at the early age of 28 on
November 27, 1944. He died serving his country in Merzenhausen, Germany and is buried in
Margraten, Holland.
My dad, known as Buster all his life, was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma. My mother Lorene Loftis Kingery
was also born and raised in the same town. They where in the first grade together. Married in 1936 at the
age of twenty. By the time he left for the war, I was four years old. We lived in Oklahoma City; my dad
worked for Borden's Milk Co. and also owned his own Pie Route Co.
We owned the house where we were living, and I remember (when I drive by and see that house) being in the
living room with the Christmas tree when the man in the uniform came to the door.
My dad was fun and generous; a loving husband and father. My mother let him be buried in Holland because
of his parents. They could never face him really being gone. I believe she would have much rather brought
him home to be placed in the Holdenville cemetery with the rest of family, then and now. She never got to
visit his gravesite, but always said he was "the best husband anyone could want".
I always knew they loved each other and loved me. I will always be grateful to them for my life. Wishing I
could have grown up knowing him and never got over missing him being with us. I was five for just nine days
before he was killed. I have the last letter he wrote, which was on the 25th of November, and knew he died
thinking of coming home to us. In that letter you could read and can feel the fear that he wouldn't get home.
My dad was an only child and I was an only child. My mother died May 24th, 1987. We always talked about him,
but not details of the war or his death. I believe with all my heart she wanted to keep his memories alive,
and believing it was the best for us. I'll always be the Proud Daughter of "Buster," my Daddy and my
"Mommie," who was always my best friend. I am very grateful for AWON and all the family I have found.
