This page is to honor and remember the men of Florence American . . .
our fathers, uncles, brothers, and loved ones . . . on their day . . . at the one place on earth where they are most remembered.

For keeping this place on earth so well ~ we want to thank the American Battle Monuments Commission,
along with the Florence American Superintendent and his staff for the dignity and reverence the entire
ABMC team provides our fathers and the friends and loved ones who visit them.

Vietnam Veterans Ron Reynolds and Pete Luste, VFW 8862 honor the beautiful Memorial Day Wreath in 2014.

A Senior Officer salutes the 2014 AWON Wreath at Florence.

Marine Major Benjamin J. Pappas, U.S. Marine attache to the U.S. Embassy, Rome
salutes the AWON Wreath ~ and 26 AWON men remembered by name ~ at the
Memorial Day services at Florence American in 2011.

The 2008 Wreath was presented by Ron Reynolds and Pete Luste,
Vietnam veterans from VFW Post 8862 in Vicenza, Italy.

The gorgeous 2006 Wreath was presented by (current) Florence copordinator, Barbara Catterall.

We want to thank the sons and daughters, other family, and the next of kin of the men of Florence American for contributing over the years to our annual
Memorial Day remembrances ~ including wreaths like the one above and banners like the ones below ~ that remember these men by name. With special
thanks to those who have been able to travel to be on hand to represent so many of us who couldn't be there.

Respectfully,
Barbara Croke Catterall

As you may know, cautions related to the Covid-19 virus caused the American Battle Monuments Commission
to close all ABMC overseas cemeteries to the public until further notice. But Memorial Day remembrances are happening
regardless, not just at our overseas cemeteries, but right here, right now, as we remember all who died in the cause of
freedom ~ including the 27 AWON men of Florence.

To Bill Chiodo, former AWON Board Member and Treasurer, who handled arrangements at Florence American
for thirteen years, from 2004 through 2016. With many thanks as well to Barbara Catterall, who has Coordinated Florence since 2017.
While Barbara remembers all who died in the cause of freedom, she especially remembers her father, PFC Joseph P. Croke.

Due to Covid, no public services were held on Memorial Day 2020.
Please be patient as we bring in treatments of 2004 through 2007 from another server.
Until then, use the "Back" button on your browser to most easily return.
