This page is to honor and remember the men of Henri-Chapelle American . . .
our fathers, uncles, brothers, and loved ones . . . on their day . . . at the one place on earth where they are most remembered.

For keeping this place on earth so well ~ we want to thank the American Battle Monuments Commission,
along with Superintendent Chris Arsenault and his staff for the dignity and reverence the entire
ABMC team provides our fathers and the friends and loved ones who visit them.

Dianna Peirson is proud to share the celebration with the originators of the AWON Wreath and Banner program,
now active in 16 overseas American cemeteries around the world: Régine and Bernard Achten and their daughter,
Marie, who officially adopted the grave of 1LT John Peirson a couple of years ago.

A special salute to Fleurs Mertens ~ our florist in nearby Welkenraedt,
who honors our fathers, as above, with nothing but the best!

Rik and Dianna Peirson and Marie Achten with our Ambassador to Belgium, Ronald J. Gidwitz,
in the Map Room of the Visitor Center. There was so much history here . . . and so little time.

Longtime AWONer and Board Member Judi Kramer and her daughter, Missy presented the wreath in 2014.
Lieutenant General David Hogg (U.S. Representative to NATO) charms (or is being charmed by) Marie Achten.

Memorial Day 2017 saw AWONer Audrey Green and her husband, Sandy present the AWON wreath.
Here they meet a four-star General after the services.

~ Rik enjoys a moment with Superintendent Chris Arsenault ~ the man who (with an incredible staff) does it all at Henri-Chapelle.
There's a rumor going around that the archangel of Henri-Chapelle lives on his shoulder.

As you may know, cautions related to the Covid-19 virus caused the American Battle Monuments Commission
to close all ABMC overseas cemeteries to the public until further notice. But Memorial Day remembrances are happening
regardless, not just at our overseas cemeteries, but right here, right now, as we remember all who died in the cause of
freedom ~ including the 57 AWON men of Henri-Chapelle.

Rik is one of the founders of the AWON Wreath & Banner program, along with Régine and Bernard Achten and Sharon Crowley Connor,
in 2003, right here at Henri-Chapelle, and is proud to manage W&B along with fellow Board Member Jean Brooks Rhinehart,
who is one of just six Coordinators who have been on the Memorial Day watch from the beginning.

Due to Covid, no public services were held on Memorial Day 2020.
Please be patient as we bring in treatments of 2003 through 2007 from another server.
Until then, use the "Back" button on your browser to most easily return.
