This page is to honor and remember the men of Suresnes American . . .
our fathers, uncles, brothers, and loved ones . . . on their day . . . at the one place on earth where they are most remembered.
For keeping this place on earth so well ~ we want to thank the American Battle Monuments Commission,
along with the Suresnes American Superintendent and his staff for the dignity and reverence the entire
ABMC team provides our fathers and the friends and loved ones who visit them.
Note that Suresnes (pronounced "surez" ~ with a silent "nes"), located just outside of Paris ~ is fundamentally
a WWI cemetery; but WWII fallen are represented (see below) by 24 men in a single, separate plot ~ who are unidentified ~
and known but to God. We remember the sacrifice of these 24 lost souls, now "found" . . . because they are our own.
A sense of deep reverence begins when you walk up the central steps into the magnificence of the central courtyard.
Our special 24 are all together in a separate plot you'll find on the extreme right side of the beautiful grounds.
The unidentified of Suresnes are remembered on this plaque that says it all.
Two young scouts and Assistant Superintendent Matthew P. Brown
presented the AWON Wreath to honor the Suresnes 24 on Memorial Day of 2017.
The beautiful AWON Wreath and Banner presented at Memorial Day 2009.
We want to sincerely thank the AWON sons and daughters and family members from other ABMC
cemeteries ~ who have so graciously funded the remembrances at Suresnes over the years.
Respectfully,
The AWON Wreath & Banner Coordinator Collective
As you may know, cautions related to the Covid-19 virus caused the American Battle Monuments Commission
to close all ABMC overseas cemeteries to the public until further notice. But Memorial Day remembrances are happening
regardless, not just at our overseas cemeteries, but right here, right now, as we remember all who died in the cause of
freedom ~ including the 24 men of Suresnes, known but to God.
The unidentified 24 of Suresnes American have been remembered every year since 2006 ~ by AWONers whose fathers rest elsewhere.
Tom Roy coordinated Suresnes for the first three years (2006 through 2008), though his father rests at Henri-Chapelle. Then Sharon Crowley Connor,
who co-founded the Wreath and Banner Program in 2003, coordinated Suresnes for the next eleven years (2009 through 2019), though her father,
SGT William Edward Crowley, KIA 15 July 44, near Yap Island in the Pacific, is remembered on the Tablets of the Missing in Manila
and at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego. Many thanks to them both. Beginning in 2020, Suresnes
is being cared for by The AWON Wreath & Banner Coordinator Collective. Thank you all!
Due to Covid, no public services were held on Memorial Day 2020.
Please be patient as we bring in treatments of 2006 through 2007 from another server.
